Position Summary

The Accountant is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and assists with general ledger and administrative functions.


  • Codes, processes and enters Accounts Payable invoices and generates cheques

  • Manages entire Accounts Receivable billing cycle including responding to clients enquiries regarding invoices and following up on outstanding Accounts Receivable

  • Prepares and sends weekly and monthly billing to the City of Toronto, Home and Community Care and other account clients

  • Prepares monthly invoices for clients using various software

  • Processes, deposits & records payments (cash, cheques & credit cards) in subledger

  • Allocates expenses to various programs & reconciles specific Balance Sheet accounts

  • Assists in monthly financial statement preparation by entering monthly revenues and expenses

  • Analysis of G/L accounts and preparation for working papers & other information for external audit

  • Preparation of donation receipts

  • Preparation of client statements for income tax purposes

  • Files and archives financial documents

  • Other bookkeeping, accounting and analytical tasks as assigned

  • Other duties as assigned

Contributes to a culture of client safety and employee Health and Safety by complying with all safety practices of the organization, reporting unsafe practices and adverse events and acting on safety recommendations


  • Diploma in Accounting from an accredited college/university

  • Experience working with MS Office (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Familiarity with Quick Books would be an asset

  • Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with clients and co-workers

  • 1-3 years A/R, A/P and general Accounting/Bookkeeping experience

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Clear Police Reference Check

  • A/R. A/P and general Accounting/Bookkeeping: 1 year
